Welcome to My Photography Journey

Hello there!

Thank you for taking the time to check out my photography blog.  I'm starting this as a way to share my view of the world.  To be fair and clear, this view is going to be very New York, USA focused though I'm sure it will expand in the future.  And by that NY focused, I mean NY outside of New York City.  I'm not a city person and this is a wonderful state for some spectacular views!  Posts may be fast and furious early on as I catch up on pictures from the summer of 2022, but will level off as I progress.

This journey began when I saw some of the pictures my oldest friend was taking.  It made me realize that I could share things that I'm seeing on the magnificent motorcycle rides I've been taking (also a new hobby).  Many of his photographs are simply stunning and he's even received some honors surrounding them!

I've also been fascinated by some of my uncles photographs, including some of the deep space pictures he's shared with me.  I will be attempting these photos as well once I learn how to get the telescope set up properly for my location.  I'm hoping that I won't have too much interference from lights and trees so that I can get something comparable to his amazing pictures.

I'm planning to post these with individual labels for each topic of photograph.  Because this is a blog, I can't do them as actual pages though through some searching, I was able to find a way to make it appear as such.  You will find them to the left under the search feature.  I am a bit on the cheap side in that I don't really want to pay for a site without knowing this experiment will draw followers and interactions.  Before anyone suggests it, I know I could use Facebook or Instagram but Meta (formerly known as Facebook) already gets enough information out of me.

Some views or photos may be repeated as I learn more about the exposure triangle, get new lenses, or learn more about editing.  I will try to remember to include details with each post (such as location, camera settings, editing details, date, etc) so that you can tell what was done and why it may appear to be a repeat.  Location information will be done using the app what3words.  The free app is available on both iOS, Android, and the web.  The company has mapped the entire surface of the world into 10 foot by 10 foot squares, each identified by 3 words.  Easy to use and share a location.

Editing is another point I should discuss.  I am using Linux as my operating system which limits my options.  Yes, there are free tools available but the learning curve on them is extremely high.  I am using Adobe Creative Cloud and have found it to be quite good.  There have been a few instances where something wasn't available or it wasn't easy to find but I have found it.

Lastly, sale of photos.  At this point, these are not for sale though that may change in the future.  I hope you enjoy and follow along.  Please feel free to comment with questions or suggestions...
