5/16/2026 - Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge

Another trip to Montezuma.  I didn't get a lot of pictures this time but I did get some very nice photos.  I also too advantage of the high resolution in the camera to do a little cropping on a couple of them as they were very well focused.  I couldn't resist because the detail was retained even with the huge crop factor.  I also got a distant picture of a bald eagle.  Once landed, I did not get any pictures I could use unfortunately.  Still a beautiful sight to see!

Site Notes: The visitor center is accessible with knowledgeable volunteers.  This area of the refuge is driving only.  No foot traffic allowed and you must stay in your car except at designated spots.  Don't worry though, there is plenty to see!

5/2/2026 - Montezuma Audubon Center

I convinced my wife to give this place a try for some easy walking and bird photography.  It is a little easier on me as I'm not working around the steering wheel.  We spent a lot of time trying to get a good picture of a Common Tern that was hunting for dinner.  I did get a couple pictures of birds I've never seen before, an American Goldfinch and a Cedar Waxwing.  I even got the Tern splashing in for a meal.

Site Notes: The building wasn't open when I visited but it is fully accessible.  The trails are accessible if you have something that can handle some rough trails.

4/18/2026 - Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge

Montezuma is becoming one of my wife's favorite places to go, taking advantage of the new camera we purchased for her (Nikon Z50 II).  I am not complaining as I do enjoy seeing and photographing the different birds that can be found here.  One of the pictures is of a juvenile Bald Eagle though it isn't all that great a picture.  Early season and rather windy so there were limited views of the birds.  Hopefully, you enjoy these.

4/11/2026 - Delphi Falls County Park

Our first stop for the year at Delphi Falls.  It is one of my wife's favorite falls to visit because of the easy walk to the base of the falls.  Truly, less than a quarter of a mile from the parking lot to the falls and it is very flat.  The views of the falls here are not accessible, but there are wonderful views that are fully accessible.  Small post as the sun was causing me some problems getting the exposure correct.

4/3/2026 - Salmon River Falls

A short ride to my favorite close-by falls.  What a shock when I got there!  I've been to these falls more times that I can remember and I've never seen even a flow this strong.  I would have liked to go down the gorge trail a little, but it was closed likely due to the flow and the fact that there is still some ice showing on the walls of the gorge.  You can see the normal flow here in my last visit to them.  Though it wasn't the first picture, I placed a picture of a sign post at the top of the falls.  You are seeing roughly 3 or 4 feet (91 or 122cm for my European friends) of it.  I can't recall but I believe it is at least 6 feet tall (183cm).  Normally, you can sit right next to it as there is a little ledge making it like a bench.  Quite an impressive amount of water given this usually has only 3 small streams coming over.

Site Notes: There are a couple of overlooks that are 100% accessible and quite nice viewing locations!

3/30/2026 - Upper Robert Treman State Park

Our last stop for the day was another close by.  The upper section of the same park as the last post.  I've been here before and walked the gorge trail to see Lucifer Falls.  But the first falls below were not visible then due to foliage.  Quite neat to see them.  Unfortunately, the gorge trail was closed but I did get a couple of really nice shots of the small falls behind the old mill.

3/30/2026 - Lower Robert Tremen State Park

After the first stop that I let my wife choose, I decided we should check out another state park that is only a few minutes away.  I've been to this a couple of times in the past but I've never gone to the lower falls because the park was open and busy.  It turned out to be a good idea since they hadn't started blocking off the creek to fill the swimming area.  It provided a quite unique view of the falls.
